COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT – INTEGRITY MENTOR

OontzKids DJ Academy is proud to partner with Integrity Mentor, a non-profit organization that supports, guides, educates, and inspires at-risk Middle/High school students in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

At OontzKids, we see first-hand how music can be so much more than a form of entertainment. It can be a passion, a creative outlet, a therapeutic tool, or the soundtrack to life’s biggest moments. For our instructors and many of our students, it has become not only a craft to hone, but a platform for creativity, confidence, leadership, independence, community building, and even entrepreneurship and potential career paths.

Through school events and organizations such as Integrity Mentor, OontzKids aims to provide opportunities for kids and teens to get a taste of DJing, music production, and music performance, speaking in any genre of the world’s universal language- music.

Check out a few of the events that we’ve done with our friends at Integrity Mentor:

In October 2017, OontzKids helped put on Vizient Community Day at the Irving ISD Student Reassignment Center. Throughout the day, approximately 30 students got their first taste of DJing with “Oontztructors” Dan & DJ KB on hand to guide them through the fundamentals. While like any musical instrument, the craft can’t be learned in just a few hours, the students loved the interaction and immediate response they could get from adjusting musical properties of their favorite songs such as tempo, pitch, EQ, and start points. Some talented students were even able to match the tempos of two of their favorite songs and transition smoothly from one to the other.

In January of 2018, OontzKids took on a bigger project and went more in depth with an all day workshop for Integrity Mentor at Texas Health in Arlington. In this workshop, the students spent the better part of a day diving into the fundamentals. We not only worked on techniques such as song phrasing, beat matching, and EQ mixing, but discussed real world applications of the technology and the social impact that it can have.

disco kids dallas

At OontzKids, we’re all about music, family, friends, and dancing, so where better to get all of these things at once than Disco Kids Dallas! This awesome program takes place on Friday nights and gives kids the chance to dance to their favorite music with their favorite people, and make new friends along the way. DiscoKids and their resident teen DJs have been kind enough to let some of the top OontzKids students take the decks for a set and get the feel of what it’s like to lead a party for a few hundred people. Djs Alex, Sebastian, Daniel, Grant, and Austin have all had their chance in the booth and raved about what an awesome experience it was. Are you next? SCHOOL VISITS

We love to visit schools! Whether we’re visiting a music class, presenting at a career day, or even putting on a half-day or all day workshop for students and teachers, we love to see how music makes students light up and even inspires some to explore music further.

We can customize the visit to suit your needs, whether we focus on music, history, technology, or a combination of the three. While we can provide some shorter, simpler visits free of charge, we do need to charge for longer, more involved visits with lots of time and equipment involved.
